Joining forces.
CUPRA and FC Barcelona join forces at the 55th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy, taking place on Saturday 19 September, with the presentation of a special edition solidarity football shirt. The aim of the joint charity campaign by the two partners is to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus by supporting the #YoMeCorono campaign in its work to research and develop a vaccine against the virus and by promoting projects that help children and young people who are are at risk.
To this end, the team coached by Koeman will lace up in a special solidarity edition of the 20/21 season shirt, which will feature the CUPRA logo on the right sleeve. Over the next few weeks, some of these player-signed special edition jerseys will be auctioned off via United Charity, a public platform specializing in sports auctions, to raise money in the fight against COVID-19.
At the same time, the car manufacturer is giving the more than 15,000 SEAT and CUPRA employees the opportunity to take part in this solidarity action by purchasing these unique jerseys through internal company channels in the weeks following the game. From the sale of each jersey, an amount of money will be donated to these social projects to contribute to the fight against COVID-19.
Proceeds from both promotions will go to projects selected by CUPRA and the Barça Foundation to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus, in particular the #YoMeCorono project led by Dr. Bonaventura Clotet, President of the Foundation to Fight AIDS and member of the Scientific Committee of SEAT Healthy Company, and to programs that help children and young people who are at risk due to COVID-19.
According to Antonino Labate, CUPRA Director of Strategy, Business Development and Operations, "We are proud to activate this double solidarity action as part of the global partnership between CUPRA and FC Barcelona. With the proceeds of these special edition jerseys, we can help young people in vulnerable situations help and we will continue to contribute to the #Yomecorono campaign to fight the virus."
Oriol Tomàs, Vice-President of FC Barcelona's Commercial Division, stressed that "The Joan Gamper Trophy is a very special event for the club and for Barça fans. Therefore, we are proud to promote together with CUPRA an action of solidarity in this special scenario and to continue to support the fight against COVID-19, in line with the various initiatives launched by the club since the beginning of the pandemic."
The jerseys, with the CUPRA logo on the right sleeve, will not be sold through the usual distribution channels and will only be available to CUPRA and SEAT employees as part of this initiative and for the charity auction taking place in the coming weeks.
This solidarity initiative is embedded in the global partnership with FC Barcelona, which has declared CUPRA as the club's official automobile and mobility partner and specifically the CUPRA Formentor as the official car of FC Barcelona.
